Writer Ask Tag Game
Thank you @metaphorfordeath for the tag! I'm also gonna base my answers on my novel. B/c it's still WIP all of this is subject to change.
What is the main lesson of your story, and why did you choose it?
There are I think a web of big lessons in the story. When the state fails (or hunts) you, the only thing you have is the community of people willing to stand with you. You have to have solidarity with people of other oppressed and marginalized communities. It's never too late to leave an organization, community, or person that is abusive either to you or others. Violence is a tool that has to be used judiciously. Fixing societal problems like injustice is desperately hard. Vampires are sexy. Etc etc...
What did you use as inspiration for your worldbuilding?
When the seeds of the novel first began percolating in my brain I was learning a lot about the AIDS crisis and how marginalized communities in the US (most notably Black, Latino, and Queer communities) were utterly abandoned by the state and had to fend for themselves. I felt compelled to write a story about living through that loss and grappling with the generational harm that comes from it. At the same time I've always been super interested in assassins, spies, and vampires - so I found a way to write a kind of spy vs spy conflict between vampire hunters and vampires with vampires acting as a proxy for the state preying on marginalized communities.
What is your main character trying to achieve? What are you, the writer, trying to achieve? Do you want to inspire others, teach forgiveness, or help the reader grow as a person?
There are four main characters, each of whom have shifting goals throughout the work. Broadly speaking, all four of the characters are trying to end the conflict with the vampires, but they have wildly different approaches and motivations for this. As a writer I'm trying to show that any huge social problem affects a city or community in multifaceted ways. For me, more than anything, this is a story of a how a city/nation lives through and responds to change, and I'd like to draw a blueprint for change for the better. In part I want to inspire cops to put down the badge. And in part I want to honor and humanely depict the pain and suffering of a community struggling for something better. I also want to evaluate different hierarchical positions of whiteness in white supremacy and look at how people can both fail in pursuing justice bc of their background, but also at how necessary pursuing justice is in spite of a proclivity for failure and missteps.
How many chapters is your story going to have?
The original draft had 82 chapters (guh). I very possibly will have to split the novel into a duology. I have a revolving POV structure that works through the four primary POVs in a cycle, then on the fifth chapter will introduce a new POV to provide the readers a new perspective or insight into the city, plot, or other facets of the world and story.
Is it fanfiction or original content? Where do you plan to post it?
Original content! I'd love to traditionally publish it, but I don't want to give up much (if any) editorial control, so it's very likely that I'll self-publish.
When did you start writing?
I was like 8 years old and had been devouring books since I was like 3. I asked my mother where books come from, and was floored to discover that people just wrote because they wanted to. With some encouragement I started to write then, but my ideas and aspirations were always bigger than the effort I was able to put in. This of course is how we grow!
Do you have any words of encouragement for fellow writers of writeblr?
I think everyone has a perspective, and it took me a long time to trust that mine might have unique insights or value. I think that's true for everyone, but you can't effectively use or deploy your perspective without practice. So talk! Write! Do whatever you have to do to develop your ideas and your skill at sharing and presenting them. The world always needs more artists, especially more artists who are unapologetically themselves. So practice! Practice is always better than daydream (although daydream is important to the process too!)
What other writers do you follow?
so for writers that I want to tag I'll @nongunktional who has a super sense of physicality in his writing, @unionizedwizard whose poetry is so compelling to me in spite (or because of?) our stylistic differences, and @barebevil whose work has such a strong sense of how the perspective affects a narrative! I also follow a number of other writers on here, including @metaphorfordeath and @synonymsfordismember (Go to their blogs and check out their work!) whose published short stories consistently leave me floored and astonished, both for how good y'all's work is but also for how shocking and powerful.
There are plenty of other writers on here that I follow that I've missed and can't tag, but if you want to consider this a tag, please do! I'd love to see more folks' perspectives on their work!

Regarding the ongoing uBlock-vs-YouTube arms race, it's interesting how, in a way, it showcases Google/Doubleclick/whatever-they-call-themselves-now's slow downfall.
It's hard to remember now, but in the 2000s, people actually non-ironically liked Google. Even as late as 2014, you could still see pro-Google takes even in Leftist and semi-Left spaces. In 2014-19, for all its flaws you could still say Google services were useful, so they had that very-practical point in their favour.
Then the 2020s began and search became increasingly-useless.
(These days, I bookmark anything I need on the web, because goodness knows if I'll be able to find it twice).
YouTube's slide appears to be well under way. It's not new, certainly they've had problems for a while - crap moderation, reams of problematic content, an algorithm that pushes far-Right influencers apparently over all other videos, and then there is the sheer propensity of YT content-creators for scandal. (Just to think of a few recent examples of the latter, let's see ... there's the 8Passengers case, there's the ongoing illuminaughtii situation, and now there's the Sssniperwolf [just how many "S"'s does she need?] debacle. And they're not the only examples I can think of, just off the top of my head. If you dug, you could certainly find many, many more. Youtuber implosions aren't rare.)
Now the platform iself is going to war with its users.
That ... rarely ends well for platforms. (*cough* LiveJournal *cough*)
As to what's going on in the background, obviously I don't know for a fact, but we can take some guesses. They may involve the words "money", "managers" and possibly "venture capital". The venture capital model that supported many internet endeavours in the 2010s seems to have gone pop, likely as a side-effect of the pandemic-rebound inflation surge. Previously, with interest rates sat up against the zero lower bound for an entire decade, VC types could borrow huge amounts of money at little-to-no cost, and they would only need a handful of investments to pay off to recoup their costs elsewhere. Now, that's no longer true. Suddenly, the VC types can quickly find themselves dangerously overextended on debt, hence some of the desperation to claw back any pennies they can.
Though, it should be noted, this point perhaps doesn't fit YouTube so well. Google/Doubleclick have no shortage of money, and were apparently quite happy to run YT as a loss-leader throughout the late 2000s and all of the 2010s. Why did they suddenly panic this year?
I have a suspicion that the answer may lie in the word "management".
As for managers, both platform and business, one thing I've noticed is that managerial culture seems to have fallen off a cliff during and "after" (insofar as there is an "after") the pandemic. Lockdown seems to have messed them up; it does appear that a lot of them fear and resent the loss of minute-to-minute control over their staf that they had when everything was default-in-the-office-full-time. (One thing I've wondered about is what is the true ratio between people who go into management for the money and people who do it because actually, they don't care about the cash and are just a control freak acting out?) The authoritarian, hierarchical nature of the modern corporate internal structure means these people are incentivised to kick down at every opportunity.
Certainly, purely from personal experience, my own workplace has got a lot worse during and after the pandemic, and most of that seems to be coming down from the top.
Viewed in the light of this model, YouTube's platform dictats make slightly more sense - basically, managers seeing users doing something they don't like, and said managers then having a tantrum. Probably they're using the VC business model issue as their justification for their behaviour, and who knows, maybe some of them even believe it.
Anyway, we'll see how this all plays out, but perhaps this is a sign we all need less Google in our lives.

Experimenting with Extreme Ideas for a Website
In today's rapidly evolving digital landscape, website design has become crucial in capturing users' attention and delivering engaging online experiences. Designers and businesses are constantly seeking innovative ways to stand out from the competition and create unique websites. One approach that has gained traction is experimenting with extreme ideas for website design. By pushing the boundaries and embracing unconventional concepts, designers can create unique and immersive experiences that leave a lasting impact on visitors. In this article, we will delve into website design experimentation, exploring the benefits, considerations, and potential outcomes of embracing extreme ideas. Whether you're a designer looking to push your creative boundaries or a business seeking to captivate your audience, SEO Geelong will provide valuable insights into the exciting world of experimenting with extreme ideas for website design.
Tumblr media
One-Page vs. Multi-Page Site
Deciding whether to create a one-page or multi-page site for your web design in Geelong is an important consideration that can significantly impact its design, functionality, and user experience. Each approach has its advantages and considerations, so let's explore the benefits and considerations of both options:
One-Page Website
A one-page website condenses all the content and information onto a single scrolling page. Here are the advantages and considerations of a one-page website –
Advantages
Simplicity and Ease of Navigation: With all content on a single page, visitors can quickly scroll through the information without needing multiple clicks or page loads. This can provide a seamless and straightforward user experience, especially for websites with concise content or specific purposes.
Visual Impact and Storytelling: One-page websites often utilise visually compelling layouts, storytelling techniques, and smooth scrolling effects to engage visitors and create a captivating narrative. This can be particularly effective for showcasing portfolios, event pages, or product promotions.
Mobile-Friendly and Responsive: One-page websites are inherently mobile-friendly, designed to be easily navigated on small screens. With the rise of mobile browsing, having a website that provides a smooth mobile experience can be advantageous.
Considerations
Limited Content Organisation: Since all the content is on a single page, organising and categorising information can take time and effort. It requires thoughtful design and clear navigation elements to ensure visitors can find the specific information they seek.
Scalability and Future Growth: One-page websites may have limitations regarding scalability and accommodating future expansion. If you anticipate significant content growth or the need for additional features in the future, there may be better choices than a one-page website.
Multi-Page Website
A multi-page website consists of multiple interconnected pages, each focusing on specific content or topic. Here are the advantages and considerations of a multi-page website –
Advantages
Content Organisation and Structure: With multiple pages, you can categorise and organise your content hierarchically, making it easier for visitors to navigate and find specific information. This is especially beneficial for websites with many products, services, or extensive content.
SEO Benefits: Search engines analyse individual web pages for relevance and ranking. A multi-page website allows you to optimise each page for specific keywords, increasing your chances of ranking well in search engine results and driving targeted organic traffic.
Scalability and Flexibility: Multi-page websites provide more room for growth and expansion. As your business evolves, you can add new pages, sections, or features to accommodate additional content, products, or services.
Considerations
Navigation Complexity: Multi-page websites require clear and intuitive navigation to ensure visitors can quickly move between pages and find the necessary information. Designing an effective navigation structure is essential to prevent users from feeling lost or overwhelmed.
Increased Development Time and Maintenance: With multiple pages, the development and maintenance of a multi-page website can be more time-consuming and resource-intensive than a one-page website.
Ultimately, the choice between a one-page or multi-page website depends on the specific goals, content, and user experience you want to achieve. Consider factors such as the amount and type of content, the desired user journey, scalability requirements, and your target audience's preferences. Whether you opt for a one-page or multi-page website, working with professional web designers can help ensure that your web design in Geelong is developed and optimised to meet your unique needs and goals.
Incorporating extreme and unconventional design ideas into a website can capture the attention of users worldwide, amplifying its visibility and potential for organic growth through optimisation by SEO Geelong.
Text-Only vs. Image-Heavy Design
When designing a website, one of the key considerations is whether to adopt a text-only approach or utilise an image-heavy design. Both options have their own merits and considerations, so let's explore the benefits and considerations of each approach:
Text-Only Design
A text-only design focuses primarily on textual content, with minimal use of images or visual elements. Here are the advantages and considerations of a text-only design:
Advantages
Fast Loading Times: Text-only designs tend to have faster loading times than image-heavy designs since they require fewer resources. This can improve user experience, particularly for visitors with slower internet connections or browsing on mobile devices.
Accessibility and Readability: Text is inherently accessible to users with visual impairments or those who rely on screen readers. By prioritising text content, you ensure that your website can be easily consumed by a broader range of users, including those with disabilities.
Focus on Information and Clarity: A text-only design places emphasis on the information and message being conveyed. With minimal distractions, visitors can focus on the textual content, making communicating key points and important details easier.
Considerations
Visual Appeal and Engagement: A text-only design may need more visual impact and engagement than an image-heavy design. It might not capture users' attention or evoke the desired emotional response, which could be crucial for certain types of websites such as portfolios, fashion, or lifestyle blogs.
Limited Visual Representation: Depending solely on text might make it challenging to effectively represent certain concepts, products, or services. Some content, such as infographics, charts, or visual storytelling, may require images or other visual elements to convey information more effectively.
Image-Heavy Design
An image-heavy design utilises visuals, such as photographs, illustrations, or graphics, as the website's primary focus. Here are the advantages and considerations of an image-heavy design:
Advantages
Visual Impact and Aesthetics: Images can captivate and engage users visually. An image-heavy design can create a visually stunning and memorable experience, making a strong impression on visitors and enhancing the website's overall aesthetics.
Visual Storytelling: Images can convey emotions, narratives, and brand identity more effectively than text alone. By using visuals strategically, you can tell a compelling story, evoke specific moods, or showcase products visually appealingly.
Enhanced User Experience: Well-chosen and high-quality images can enhance the user experience by providing visual cues, guiding the user's attention, or reinforcing the website's message. They can make the content more engaging and enjoyable to consume.
Considerations
Slower Loading Times: Image-heavy designs can lead to slower loading times, especially if high-resolution images are used extensively. It is crucial to optimise images for web use and implement strategies like lazy loading to mitigate any potential performance issues.
Accessibility Challenges: While images can enhance the visual experience, they can also present accessibility challenges. Users with visual impairments or those relying on screen readers may miss important information conveyed through images. Proper alt text and alternative content should be provided to ensure accessibility.
Ultimately, choosing between a text-only or image-heavy design depends on your website's goals, content, target audience, and desired visual impact. In some cases, a balanced approach that combines both textual content and strategic use of visuals might be the most effective solution. Working with professional web designers can help you strike the right balance and create a design that aligns with your objectives while ensuring a positive user experience. By daring to experiment with extreme ideas in website design, businesses can carve a unique online presence that not only grabs the attention of their target audience but also boosts their visibility in search engine rankings through effective strategies by SEO Geelong.

Annotated Bibliography of Relevant Sources
Burgan, R, van Wagtendonk, J, Keane, Robert E, Burgan, Robert, & van Wagtendonk, Jan. (2001). Mapping wildland fuels for fire management across multiple scales: Integrating remote sensing, GIS, and biophysical modeling. International Journal of Wildland Fire, 10(3-4), 301–319. https://doi.org/10.1071/WF01028
This study compares the advantages and disadvantages of four different methods of fuel mapping: field reconnaissance, direct remote sensing, indirect remote sensing and biophysical modeling. None of these methods appear to be highly accurate or consistent in and of themselves. Yet, all of these methods represent a means of collecting data for synthesis within a geographic information system for the purpose of creating a map that is useful to land management. The authors propose a strategy which involves classifying biophysical setting, species composition and stand structure to assign fuel models, but acknowledge the enduring need for sensor technology that can penetrate a forest canopy to effectively analyze complex surface fuels.
Church, Richard, Adams, Benjamin, Bassett, Danielle, & Brachman, Micah L. (2019). Wayfinding during a wildfire evacuation. Disaster Prevention and Management., ahead-of-print(ahead-of-print). https://doi.org/10.1108/DPM-07-2019-0216
This will be an interesting article to read when it is published, because it is an example of using GIS to synthesize and analyze empirical data from a wildfire evacuation for the purpose of helping emergency managers to develop more effective wildfire evacuation plans. The authors used network analysis to compare volunteers’ selected routes with the shortest distance routes available, and found that only 31 percent of evacuees took a shortest distance route, and that factors such as the elevation of exits and downhill slope could have impacted wayfinding processes. Although this study is more of a spatiotemporal snapshot, more generalizable results could be produced with additional research.
Coops, Nicholas C., Ferster, Colin J, & Coops, Nicholas C. (2014). Assessing the quality of forest fuel loading data collected using public participation methods and smartphones. International Journal of Wildland Fire, 23(4), 585–590. https://doi.org/10.1071/WF13173
This study looks at the potential for citizens to contribute forest structure and fuels input data for use in the applied geographic information systems used by land managers. Citizen contributions could be especially helpful in data collection over broad areas because accurate characterization of forest fuels is dependent on frequent field measurements, as fuels are spatially variable, can change rapidly due to changing conditions, and are difficult to sense remotely under dense canopy. Eighteen volunteers were recruited at the University of British Colombia, and nine of those had extensive working experience in either wildfire suppression or fuels management. The volunteers used an app on their smartphones to collect and report data. For most components, professional measurements were only slightly closer to reference measurements than volunteered measurements, however, non-professional participants notably overestimated aspect and slope. Overall, when appropriate training is provided and adequate controls for accuracy are incorporated, this study found volunteer data collection to be suitable to help inform forest management decisions.
Danzer, SR, Watts, JM, Stone, S, Yool, SR, Miller, Jay D, Danzer, Shelley R, … Yool, Stephen R. (2003). Cluster analysis of structural stage classes to map wildland fuels in a Madrean ecosystem. Journal of Environmental Management., 68(3), 239–252. https://doi.org/10.1016/S0301-4797(03)00062-8
The authors of this study highlight the importance of quality baseline fuels data since we are not yet capable of assessing understory fuels with remotely sensed data. This assessment therefore combines field data collections with GIS, remote sensing, and hierarchical clustering to map the variability of fuels within and across vegetation types of 156 plots from a mountain range in the southwestern U.S. Vegetation classification was validated using an independent sample of 479 randomly located points and demonstrated substantial accuracy with a Kappa value of .80. However, the overall map, created by combining the land cover/vegetation type classification and fuel classes within vegetation type classifications received a relatively low Kappa of .50. This reduction in accuracy could be attributed to GPS errors, ecological overlap between adjacent vegetation types, and/or confusion of fuel classes in areas where overstory canopies obscured the understory.
Dean, DJ, Blackard, Jock A, & Dean, Denis J. (1999). Comparative accuracies of artificial neural networks and discriminant analysis in predicting forest cover types from cartographic variables. Computers and Electronics in Agriculture., 24(3), 131–151. https://doi.org/10.1016/S0168-1699(99)00046-0
The authors compare an artificial neural networks (ANNs) approach to GIS with a conventional model based on discriminant analysis (DA) with regards to effectiveness at predicting forest cover types. In this study, elevation of each 30x30-m raster cell was obtained directly from USGS digital elevation model (DEM) data. Results demonstrated that both ANN and DA models tended to confuse ponderosa pine, Douglas-fir, and cottonwood/willow cover types with each other, potentially due to geographic proximity. However, overall, the ANN model, with a predictive accuracy of 71.1 percent, was shown to be superior to the DA model, with a predictive accuracy of 58.4 percent.
Eva, E. K. (2010). A method for mapping fire hazard and risk across multiple scales and its application in fire management. Ecological Modelling., 221(1), 2–18. https://doi.org/info:doi/
This study presents an effective approach for mapping fire risk across large, complex geographies containing diverse ecosystems on multiple scales. The author uses FIREHARM, which is a C++ program capable of computing changes in fire characteristics over time using climate data, to predict fuel moisture and corresponding fire behavior, danger, and effects. This model does not provide spatially explicit information concerning fire spread. Instead, it assumes that every pixel or polygon experiences a head fire and simulates the resulting fire characteristics based on ensuing weather factors. A landscape is represented by series of polygons. Each polygon defines an area of similar characteristics (vegetation, fuel, site conditions), is assigned attributes related to fire behavior, and is also assigned a tree list (with attributes of species, diameter, height) which combine to estimate tree mortality for a region. In 2004, FIREHARM was validated by the results of a comparison with 54 sample plots from the Cooney Ridge and Mineral Primm wildfires, producing adequate predictions of fuel consumption within approximately 14 days. The model also had a 60 percent chance of accuracy in predicting canopy vs. non-canopy fire and scorch height and fire severity predictions compared well with observed conditions.

This study explains the process of using a geographic information system to synthesis existing information for the purpose of calculating fire danger and fire resistance per unit area (1 km2) and to map distribution within a forest. First, data is collected, next data is grouped into thematic layers, and finally the layers are synthesized for evaluation. The input data required to produce such a map involves taking an inventory of factors with both horizontal and vertical spatial distribution. Homogeneous information layers, such as landscape, are broken down into a series of variables (vegetation zones, land cover structure, aspect, slope, altitude). External factors include climate, landscape, human impact, and other special factors. Internal factor information layers relate to forest stand structure and describe fire resistance at the forest floor, understory, low crown, middle crown, and high crown levels. The mapping of these factors allows for spatial delineation of fire danger zones which decision makers in determining operational objectives and priorities for large geographical areas.

Fire Information for Resource Management System: Archiving and Distributing MODIS Active Fire Data. IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing a Publication of the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society., 47(1), 72–79. https://doi.org/10.1109/TGRS.2008.2002076
This paper describes the ways in which the combined technologies of remote sensing and GIS are able to deliver Moderate-resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) active fire data to resource managers and even e-mail customized alerts to users. When used as a mobile service, Fire Information for Resource Management System (FIRMS) is an application that can deliver fire information to field staff regarding potential danger. For example, in South Africa, when a fire is detected either using data from MODIS or from a weather satellite, a text message is sent to relevant personnel who can decide if/what action may be required. This strategy makes satellite-derived FIRMS data more accessible to natural resource managers, scientists, and policy makers who use the data for monitoring purposes and for strategic planning.
Kalabokidis, K. (2013). Virtual Fire: A web-based GIS platform for forest fire control. Ecological Informatics., 16, 62–69. https://doi.org/info:doi/
This research project, supported by the University of Athens in Greece and funded by Microsoft Research, describes the high-tech but user-friendly Virtual Fire system, a web-based GIS platform, which allows firefighting forces to share and utilize real-time data (provided by GPS, satellite, camera) for the purpose of locating resources (vehicles, aircrafts, water tanks) and associated shortest routes, monitoring fire ignition probability, and identifying high risk areas. Data from automatic weather stations also aids in fire prevention and early warning. With the ability to conveniently access this information in synthesized form, managers can design more effective and efficient operational plans. Future considerations involve moving to a cloud-based platform, which would allow for expansion to a broader area and the increased incorporation of mobile devices.
Karlsson Martin, Oskar, Galiana Martin, Luis, Montiel Molina, Cristina, Karlsson Martín, Oskar, & Galiana Martín, Luis. (2019). Regional fire scenarios in Spain: Linking landscape dynamics and fire regime for wildfire risk management. Journal of Environmental Management., 233, 427–439. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jenvman.2018.12.066
The authors of this study apply socioecological systems theory to the wildfire generations model, which describes and explains the appearance and transformation of large wildfires in relation to landscape dynamics within Mediterranean climatic regions. There is a focus on acknowledging the ways in which humans directly and indirectly affect fire regimes. National forest inventory data and existing maps are the data used to create fire scenarios for the Central Mountain Range in Spain via ArcGIS and SPSS23. Land use and land cover features, which relate certain fuel structures to certain fire behaviors, are assigned to 91 discrete geographical units. The resulting visual comparisons can be used to help managers optimize prevention and suppression strategies.
Koukoulas, Sotirios, Kazanis, Dimitrios, & Arianoutsou, Margarita. (2011). Evaluating Post-Fire Forest Resilience Using GIS and Multi-Criteria Analysis: An Example from Cape Sounion National Park, Greece. Environmental Management., 47(3), 384–397. https://doi.org/10.1007/s00267-011-9614-7
The ability to assess an ecosystem’s resilience, or its capacity to endure disturbances without a state change, is becoming more important in the face of an accelerated decrease in biodiversity and with the projected effects of climate change. This study uses geographic information systems (GIS) to assess post-fire resilience by synthesizing bioindicators, such as forest cover, density, and species richness with geo-indicators, such as fire history, slope, and parent material. The significance of each factor was assessed using sensitivity analysis in order to produce a map of areas at risk- “risk hotspots” – of losing resilience, allowing managers to prioritize resources in restoration efforts.
Kulakowski, D, Veblen, TT, Bigler, Christof, Kulakowski, Dominik, & Veblen, Thomas T. (2005). MULTIPLE DISTURBANCE INTERACTIONS AND DROUGHT INFLUENCE FIRE SEVERITY IN ROCKY MOUNTAIN SUBALPINE FORESTS. Ecology., 86(11), 3018–3029. https://doi.org/10.1890/05-0011
GIS technologies are especially helpful for spatially predicting indicators such as fire severity, which can be the result of complex interactions. This study examines the possible combined effects of interactions between the disturbances of fire, insect outbreaks, and storm blowdown upon fire severity. Pairwise overlay analyses were performed in order to assess these associations. The regression models created, unlike bivariate overlay analysis, allowed for the simultaneous predictions, hypothesis tests and assessment of effects. Results showed that local forest cover type was a significant factor affecting fire spread and severity in the Rocky Mountains, with Spruce-fir stands having the highest probability of burning at high severity. Maps created in GIS show weather variability only significantly affecting fire when fuel build up is sufficient. Pre-fire disturbance and topography were also found to influence burn severity and explain variability.

Ecological restoration projects (i.e. post-wildfire disturbance) can be very difficult to design and analyze quantitatively due to several factors: experimental units are often heterogeneous, multiple non-uniform treatments may be applied iteratively, replication is difficult or impossible, the effects of extrinsic and intrinsic disturbances may be poorly understood, and the goal of focus is typically the variability in system responses rather than mean responses. This author provides thorough explanations of each of these challenges, along with a variety of ways in which they might be addressed, including via the application of GIS technologies. GIS is described as a powerful tool in relation to this discipline because of its ability to quickly synthesis data using multiple layers, rename and reclassify attributes, analyze spatial coincidence and proximity, and provide quantitative and statistical measurements which can be used to identify potential restoration sites and to visualize and interpret results.

Biomass is defined by the net difference between photosynthetic production and consumption (respiration, mortality, harvest, herbivory). This measurement is an important indicator of the carbon stored in forests, which can be released as atmospheric carbon into the air during a disturbance (i.e. wildfire) or function as atmospheric carbon sinks during periods of regeneration post-disturbance. While accurate measurements of biomass provide valuable information for decision makers and land managers, large scale estimations can be challenging (remote sensing techniques have met with little success). The authors of this widely-cited study decided to use preciously established methods to convert US forest inventory volume data into above and belowground biomass, downloaded from the USFS Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) database, which they then mapped in a geographic information system (GIS) by county. These maps provide a vivid visual representation of forest biomass density patterns over space which can be useful in predicting changes to the global carbon cycle and evaluating potential for increased biomass-carbon storage.

In this study, a geographic information system was used to integrate regional data including forest distribution, growth rate, and stand characteristics, provided by the USDA Forest Service, with current and predicted climate data in order to produce four different models predicting the potential effects of climate change upon the loblolly pine across the southern U.S. Results indicated a high likelihood of a 19 to 95 percent decrease in growth rates, varying substantially per region and primarily influenced by a relative change in carbon assimilation and CO2 concentrations. In this case, GIS seems particularly useful for synthesizing existing information from regional surveys and account for uncertainties to produce ecological risk assessments at large scales in a way that is useful to policy and decision makers (vs. lengthy reports that are difficult to parse through).
Williams, D, Barry, D, Kasischke, Eric S, Williams, David, & Barry, Donald. (2002). Analysis of the patterns of large fires in the boreal forest region of Alaska. International Journal of Wildland Fire, 11(2), 131–144. https://doi.org/10.1071/WF02023
This study represents the first attempt to spatially correlate the distribution of fire activity in Alaska with climate, topographic, and vegetation cover features using GIS to provide a realistic assignment of fire cycle (frequency) for 11 distinct Alaskan ecoregions (where 96% of all fire activity occurs). GIS technologies can make use of Alaska’s state-wide initiative to digitize maps of fire perimeters from fire events from 1950 to 1999. Perimeter maps are created using a combination of ground and aerial surveys, and aerial photography or satellite imagery. Geospatial analysis showed fire frequency to be influenced by the complex interaction of elevation, aspect, lightening strike frequency, precipitation, forest cover, and growing season temperature.

Flutter vs Ionic: Which One Should You Choose?
Tumblr media
Are you trying to find the best framework for creating your mobile application?
Do you need a cross-platform solution that can easily work with many devices and operating systems?
Look nowhere else! Flutter and Ionic, two well-known frameworks, will each be thoroughly examined in this blog post.
Each has distinctive features, benefits, and drawbacks that make them suited for various kinds of programs.
In order to determine which one is most appropriate for your project, we offer what we have discovered through our ten years of expertise as a flutter development company.
So buckle up as we explore the world of Flutter vs. Ionic! Introduction to Flutter and Ionic
Here’s a quick overview of each framework: Using the same codebase, you can create native-looking Android and iOS apps with Google's open-source Flutter mobile SDK. The programming language Dart, which is quick and simple to learn, is used to create Flutter apps.
Although it employs web technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript rather than Dart, Ionic is also an open-source mobile SDK. That implies a single codebase can be used to create Ionic apps for both Android and iOS. Flutter vs Ionic – ArchitectureThe ideal architecture enables future support and updates in addition to streamlining the overall development process.
With a hierarchical layered architecture, platform-specific widgets at the top level set the stage for Flutter's capabilities. Rendering layers mediate interactions between platform levels. Scaffold transfers API requests to the foundation and makes extensive use of C and C++ engines.
There is a separate presentation layer and a layer for business logic in the Flutter BLoc design.
Ionic's Model View Controller, which enables developers to work concurrently on a single app, is built on AngularJS MVC. Recurrent iterations are unaffected by recurrent iterations, and several views can be simply built. Flutter vs Ionic – PerformanceIt's important to consider how Flutter and Ionic apps function. Better performing apps must be created.
When it comes to complex applications, Flutter performs better than Ionic in terms of speed. Due to the availability of native modules as native components, there is no requirement for a communication bridge on the Flutter platform.
Flutter outperforms Ionic in terms of speed because it is not web-based.
Flutter vs ionic – FlexibilityA modular app development framework makes it possible for numerous developers with various skill sets to work together concurrently, speeding up the development process. The project may be easily divided into numerous sub-packages thanks to Flutter's hierarchical architecture, and numerous modules can be added to the codebase. A single root module is often used for bootstrapping, and feature modules increase functionality. To generate several modules, Ionic uses Angular's NgModule class.
Ionic vs. Flutter: Code maintenance
Application code maintenance is crucial to guaranteeing the continuation of services for different clients.
Maintaining Flutter code is simple. Developers can support third-party libraries, leverage external tools, and quickly discover problems. Hot reloading guarantees that issues are fixed as quickly as feasible.
Comparing Ionic to Flutter, maintaining the code is more difficult because Ionic lacks backward compatibility.
Flutter vs Ionic – Building complex apps
Flutter makes it easy to build complex apps. Flutter apps use a plugin system with a hierarchical structure to facilitate communication between them.
Using Material components in Android or Cupertino Widgets in iOS, you can easily create interfaces.
Animated UI, image processing, and location-based services are difficult to add with Ionic. Simple apps, however, are easy to build, and they work perfectly.
Ionic vs. Flutter: User Experience
Flutter's innate ability to create custom widgets that seem like native ones offer the best user experience. Excellent user interfaces should be created by developers with an understanding of Animation Builder, Stream Builder, and Future Builder.
Dart provides the ability to generate UI frames for transient object codes via generational garbage collection. When a single pointer bump is utilized for object allocation, there won't be any UI clutter or animation slowness.
Ionic's transient and native-like UI navigation offers a fantastic user experience. Applications can be created within native app containers thanks to the hybrid method. Users don't need to download any apps to receive new updates.
Testing Flutter vs. Ionic
Unit testing for Flutter can be done with Spec, Spek, or Mocha. XCUITest or Appium are two tools that can be used for UI testing. Testing suites are included in Flutter driver packages.
Web-based technologies are widely employed during Ionic app testing. Without using emulators, Web View automatically tests the application on several browsers. Ionic CLI makes web component testing simple as well.
Ionic vs. Flutter: Size
The creation of densely packed programs with improved performance is the constant aim of developers.
The size of the Flutter Hello World app is 7.5 MB because of the Dart virtual machine and C/C++ engine.
Version 5 of the Hello World app for Ionic is only 3.2MB. Apps made with earlier versions used to be 5–6MB in size.
Both Flutter and Ionic are popular choices for building cross-platform mobile apps.
Ionic: Ionic is an excellent option if you want to design an app that is largely focused on content consumption, like a news or magazine app. It features several UI elements that make it simple to present content in an appealing and user-friendly manner.
Flutter: Flutter is the better option if you want to make an app with intricate animations or graphics. It provides more UI customization than Ionic, enabling the development of genuinely original experiences.
Both: You can utilize both Ionic and Flutter to build an app that combines the greatest features of both worlds. You might, for instance, use Ionic for the portions of your app that are content-focused and Flutter for the more interactive or animated elements.
Flutter might be the best option for you if you want to quickly construct a cross-platform project and don't mind giving up some native capabilities.
Ionic might be a better choice, though, if you need more control over the appearance and feel of your app or need access to native device functionality.

React.js Vs React Native – The Main Differences And Advantages
Introduction
If you are looking for the best web development services in USA, you have come to the right place. Both React.js and React Native are widely used technologies for creating applications. Despite having similar names, they have completely different characteristics. We'll focus on the advantages they can offer you from a business standpoint in this blog post. Continue reading to learn about the main differences between both technologies, the benefits and drawbacks of utilizing Reactjs and React Native, and the characteristics that give each of them their true individuality.
What Is React.js?
IT professionals utilize the free, open-source JS framework Reactjs to design or render hierarchical UI components. Reactjs is a popular and widely used JS framework that is in demand from start-ups, medium-sized businesses, and large corporations. It is mostly used to create single-page apps (SPAs) and mobile apps. React js is particularly helpful when it comes to designing user interfaces for online and mobile applications because of its powerful UI features.
View layers of web and mobile apps are especially the focus of the  Reactjs JavaScript library. Reusable components enable programmers to create more robust and well structured apps. Reactjs has a number of benefits, including high speeds, effectiveness, practicability for component-oriented user interfaces, functionality and the capacity to build complicated and large-scale projects.
What Is React Native?
An open-source UI software framework is React Native. With the aid of the JS programming language, it is utilized to create native apps. It is the perfect software for native app component compilation. The React DOM base abstraction translates to the base abstraction of Reactjs, and in React Native case it is the base abstraction of React Native. This shows that while having extremely similar syntactical and procedural traits, their individual parts are different.
With React Native, the same code may be used on a range of operating systems, including Android, iOS, Windows, etc. The React Native's look and feel, ability to repurpose similar coding on several platforms, live reload, concentration on UI, cost-effectiveness, external plugins, and a sizable user base are some of its notable advantages.
So Then What Are The Advantages Of React.js?
Lightning-Fast Speed
With the aid of the document object model, it provides the chance to create online applications very quickly (DOM). While a software developer writes code as though all the pages are rendered at each update, the reality being only the components that experienced changes in Reactjs are rendered. This makes working with Reactjs faster. Because of this, Reactjs is frequently chosen over alternative softwares for creating websites and mobile web applications.
Component-Oriented Architecture
This allows you to reuse components and save yourself a good chunk of money and time.
A huge UI can be broken down into its component elements, which programmers can then transform into a separate, self-contained component.
Boosted Search Engine Optimization
Reactjs has the ability to render on the server side as well, so it can improve your marketing efforts and increase the number of new visitors to your website. It will be simpler for Google crawlers to index and cache the content when they visit such improved websites with rendered imagery and text.
Rich Tool Kit
Users of Reactjs are fortunate enough to be a part of a sizable development community that has produced a vast ecosystem of tools, component libraries, IDEs, extensions for coders, web browsers, and other things.
So Then What Are the Advantages Of React Native For Companies?
Platform-Particular
The code in React Native can recognise the platforms it runs on and adjust itself automatically. This is needless to say a huge plus point.
Easier Programming
It's interesting to note that frontend web developers who are familiar with JS, APIs, and UIs can also learn how to utilize React Native and create apps utilizing it. Learning React Native and using it thereafter becomes a seamless task. Additionally, programmers can use Reactjs skills for React Native development.
Quick Work
React Native programmers will also be able to reload mobile apps automatically with Hot Reloading. This option can greatly speed up your React Native project and save you a tonne of time.
Built-in Libraries
In order to improve user interface development, React Native comes with a number of libraries pre installed by default. React Native will also make it easier to develop software quickly because you won't have to start from scratch, which will free up your time to focus more mindfully on your tasks.
Conclusion
Hopefully you will now have a clearer understanding of the difference between Reactjs and its counterpart React Native. There are many useful features in both Reactjs and React Native.

What's The Difference Between Angular JS And Angular?
Tumblr media
Angular JS is a well-known JavaScript framework for creating dynamic web app development. For developing code, it uses directives that are reusable as modular and HTML for template development. Flipside of the coin Angular is a prominent open-source JavaScript framework. It provides a hierarchy based architecture through components that is directive with templates.
Following are the Features of AngularJS:
Angular JS has controllers a JavaScript functions that are bound to specific case & scope. All you need to do is Hire Angular JS developers and start your project.
Angular JS provides you data binding. It is the programmed synchronization of the data between view and model components. Angular JS presents several inbuilt services to fulfill web app development needs such as HTTP to create XML HTTP Requests.
Angular JS routing transfers the views, providing you the simple solutions. As we know, it uses directives for DOM foundations like attributes, data, elements, CSS, and more. These can make customized HTML tags that may serve as new widgets. It has inbuilt directives, namely ngBind and ngModel.
MVW (Model View Whatever) is a pattern for separating data apps into parts called model, view, and controller. Each of these parts is distinctive with accountabilities. However, it does not devise MVC in traditional style, but is near to MVVM model (model-view-ViewModel).
Tumblr media
Following are the Features of Angular:
Angular develops native web apps through approaching Native Script.
Angular uses web policy and compatibility to convey app like capabilities, offline, performance, and zero-step installation.
Angular provides you the command-line tools that aid in adding tests, components, and other related things for code deployment.
You can create UI views in Angular with strong, simple, and quick template syntax values.
Angular helps you to create complex, high-performance animations timeline and documentation with less adoption of code through Angular in-built API.
The following point depicts the aspects of Angular vs AngularJS in detail:
Angular
Angular uses components and directives.
Angular built mobile support applications.
Angular code is written in Microsoft TypeScript.
It uses a hierarchical dependency injection system.
The Angular team uses @RouteConfiguration {(…)} to define routing information.
( ) and [ ] attributes are used for two way binding between view and model.
Angular code has a better structure, and it is easy to create and manage large applications.
AngularJS
AngularJS code is not mobile-friendly.
AngularJS code is written in Javascript.
They do not use a dependency injection system.
Angular.js works on MVC (Model-View-Controller) design.
AngularJS development team uses @routeProvider.when ( ),for configuration and routing information.
[{ }} expressions are used for two way binding between view and model. Special methods ng-bind can also do the same.
Note: “Generally, I prefer Angular JS because it is a robust framework. Angular JS is used to develop scalable client-side web apps by saving your time and cost.”

Why are links important to Google?
Internal linking is an important factor for Google and other search engines. But why? And where do you start?
youtube
As Marieke explains in the video, Google follows links to discover content on websites and to rank this content in the search results. If a post or page gets a lot of links this is a signal to Google that it’s an important or high-value article. This counts for internal as well as external links.
Internal linking is something you control as a site owner. With the right internal links, you’ll guide your visitors and Google to your most important pages. Our internal linking tool can help you by suggesting related posts to link to!
Relationships between content
Google crawls websites by following links, internal and external, using a bot called Google bot. This bot arrives at the homepage of a website, starts to render the page and follows the first link. By following links Google can work out the relationship between the various pages, posts and other content. This way Google finds out which pages on your site cover similar subject matter.
On top of this post, for example, you’ll see links to the ‘Content SEO Company’, ‘Internal linking’ and ‘Site structure’ tags. We make sure Google understands that the content on those pages is related to the content of this post by adding these links.
Link value
In addition to understanding the relationship between content, Google divides link value between all links on a web page. Often, the homepage of a website has the greatest link value because it has the most backlinks. That link value will be shared between all the links found on that homepage. The link value passed to the following page will be divided between the links on that page, and so on.
Therefore, your newest blog posts will get more link value if you link to them from the homepage, instead of only on the category page. And Google will find new posts quicker if they’re linked to from the homepage.
When you get the concept that links pass their link value on, you’ll understand that more links to a post mean more value. Because Google deems a page that gets lots of valuable links as more important, you’ll increase the chance of that page ranking.
Setting up an internal linking strategy
It’s crucial for your site’s SEO Company to evaluate and improve internal linking strategy on a regular basis. By adding the right internal links you make sure Google understands:
the relevance of pages;
the relationship between pages;
and the value of pages.
To set up your internal linking strategy, there are several things to take into account. How you go about it exactly, of course, depends on your site and your goals, but the following steps are a good rule of thumb.
1. Determine the ideal structure for your site
We always advise website owners to imagine their website as a pyramid. On top of it is your homepage, below that there are some sections or categories, and further down there are individual posts and pages (possibly with subcategories in between).
Tumblr media
If you do it well, your website’s menu should reflect this structure. In our Ultimate guide to site structure you can read how to create the best site structure for your site.
2. Decide what your most important content is
Then, you should determine what your most important content is. If you’re not sure, please read our article on cornerstone content. In short, it’s your best and most complete content; it’s about the core of your business. It’s the content you want people to find when they’re searching for a topics or products that you specialize in.
Because you want to let Google know that this is your most essential content, you need to add many links to it. There are various spots from where you can link to your cornerstone content. Here, we’ll give the most common options, from your post’s copy to your navigation.
3. Add contextual links
When you’ve written various articles about a certain topic you should link them with each other. This will show Google – and users! – that those articles are topically related. You can link directly from sentences in your copy or add links at the end of your post.
Moreover, you want to show Google which of those articles is your cornerstone: your most complete article on this topic. To do so, you have to add a link to the cornerstone in all of the articles on this topic. And don’t forget to link back from the cornerstone to the individual posts.
Contextual linking: an example
On our blog, there’s a cornerstone content article called ‘The ultimate guide to keyword research’. We want this post to rank for all related search queries about [keyword research] in Google search results.
So we’ve added links from other relevant articles, such as ‘7 keyword research mistakes to avoid‘, ‘ What is keyword research‘ or ‘Focus on long tail keywords‘ to the main article. And we link back from the main article to these posts. In doing so, Google will understand that the ultimate guide contains most information about [keyword research]. So in the end, Google will rank the ultimate guide above the other, shorter posts about keyword research.
4. Link hierarchical pages
If you have hierarchical pages on your website, link parent pages to its child pages and vice versa. Also, don’t forget to link sibling pages to each other. On a well-organised site these pages should be related and linking them like this will make perfect sense.
Read all about linking parent and child pages for SEO.
5. Consider adding a related post section
There are many plugins and modules that add complete related posts sections to your posts. If you use one, we recommend testing whether the related posts actually are related posts. If you’re not sure, linking to posts manually is probably best. That’s what we do on Yoast.com – we select a related post manually (or with a little help from our internal linking tool – more on that later) and place a link to that post at the bottom of the article.
Michiel explains this in detail in this post about linking to related posts.
6. Try adding navigational links
Besides linking from topically-related posts and pages, it’s possible to make your cornerstone content more authoritative by adding links to it from the homepage or the top navigation. You should do this with the posts and pages that are most important to your business. This will give these posts or pages a lot of link value and makes them stronger in Google’s eyes.
7. Add links to your taxonomies
Taxonomies, like categories and tags, help you organize your site and help users and Google to understand what your content is about. If you have a blog it could be beneficial to add internal links to the taxonomies the post belongs to. Adding links to the category and tags helps Google to understand the structure of your blog and helps visitors to more easily navigate to related posts.
8. Consider adding links to popular or recent posts
The last option to mention is creating internal links to the most popular or newest posts on your website. Preferably create these sections in the sidebar or the footer of your website to have them appear on all pages and posts.
As link value passes to these most popular/recent posts from many different pages and posts they really get a boost. Besides that, the posts will be easier for visitors to access, which will increase traffic – and more traffic is a positive sign to Google.
More on internal links
Nofollow links
You also probably have links that aren’t important for SEO Company on your website. If you have a login link for your clients on the homepage, for example, you don’t want to leak link value to your login page – that page doesn’t need to rank high in the search results.
You used to be able to prevent losing link value to unimportant links by giving them a nofollow tag. A nofollow tag asks Google not to follow the link: so no link value is lost. Now you might think: “I’m going to nofollow less important links to give the most important links more link value.” While this worked in the past, Google has become smarter. Now it seems that the link value for those nofollow links doesn’t automatically flow to the other links on the page. The nofollow link will be counted as a link and the link value for that link will be lost. Therefore it makes more sense to have fewer links on a page instead of nofollowing some of the links.
Note that adding a nofollow tag doesn’t mean that those target pages can’t be found in Google’s search results. If you don’t want pages or posts to show up in the search results you should give them a noindex tag as well. The noindex tag means that Google shouldn’t render the page and shouldn’t give the content a place in the Google index to show up in the search results.

Anchor texts
Once you have decided which links should be on a page and which pages should get link value, it’s important to use the right anchor text. The anchor text is the clickable text that visitors see. For example, the anchor text of the two internal links in the example below are ‘link schemes’ and ‘paid links’:
Tumblr media
You can see the anchor text containing the link in this image.
If you over-optimize anchor text you might hurt your website. And by over-optimizing, we mean keyword stuffing. Previously, you could give all anchor texts the same keyword and Google made your website rank higher for that keyword. Nowadays, Google is smart enough to understand that the content around the anchor text says more about the relevancy of a keyword than the anchor text itself. So make sure the anchor text looks natural in your copy: it’s fine to use keywords but don’t add the exact same keywords to every link’s anchor text.

Before your content can rank, it needs links. Google finds your posts and pages best when they’re linked to from somewhere on the web. Internal links also connect your content and give Google an idea of the structure of your website. They can establish a hierarchy on your site, allowing you to give the most important pages and posts more link value than other, less valuable, pages. So using the right internal linking strategy can boost your SEO Company!
Table of contents
Did you get a red bullet for internal links in Yoast SEO Company? Jump straight ahead and read how this assessment works in Yoast SEO and how to improve your internal linking.
What are internal links?
An internal link is any link from one page on your website to another page on your website. Both your users and search engines use links to find content on your website. Your users use links to navigate through your site and to find the content they want to find. Search engines also use links to navigate your site. They won’t find a page if there are no links to it.
There are several types of internal links. In addition to links on your homepage, menu, post feed, etc, you can also add links within your content. We call those contextual links. Contextual links point your users to interesting and related content. Moreover, they allow search engines to find out what content on your site is related and to determine the value of that content. The more links an important page receives, the more important it will seem to search engines. Therefore, good internal links are crucial to your SEO Company.
Internal links vs external links
Every website consists of internal and external links. Internal links connect pages and posts on your own website and external links connect your pages to other websites. In this post, we focus on internal links and what they mean for SEO Company. If you want to get more external links pointing to your site, see our posts on link building.

The Differences Between Angular vs AngularJS - Software Training Institute In Pune
Tumblr media
Though they might sound alike, AngularJS and Angular are very much different. AngularJS is a front end javascript framework mainly used for Developing Single Page Applications developed by Google and released in 2010. Angular on the other hand is a general web application framework that is built by the same team which originally developed AngularJS.
It is completely built from the ground up and was released in 2016. From 2018, AngularJS entered a Long term development mode which ends in 2021. There is a heavy competition between angular vs Angularjs whether which is the best one and what to use.
So, here in this article, let us understand the differences between them and try to answer the question AngularJS vs Angular which to learn?. We provide Angularjs training in Pune that provides you with much-needed skill on AngularJs.
Differences between AngularJS and Angular
Architecture
A major difference between angular vs angularjs is about architecture. AngularJS supports MVC (Model View Controller) architecture in which the model contains all the logic required and the controller has the desired output and Angular handles all the processing required for getting that output. The structure is easy to create and maintain small applications easily but is relatively less manageable for large applications. Setting up AngularJS is easier too.
In Contrast, angular is based on controllers and directives. A directive, in a basic sense, is a function that executes whenever the compiler finds it in DOM. when directives are combined with templates, they are components. Together, they provide a structure that makes it easy for maintaining large applications but is not so easy with small applications.
Written language
AngularJS is written in JavaScript while Angular is written in Typescript which is a superset of ES6. Being a statically typed language, typescript has some benefits and avoids many pitfalls that generally occur while using weakly typed languages like Javascript. However when simplicity and flexibility matter, javascript may be a good choice.
Performance
Angularjs vs angular performance is one of the most important things to consider. It is one of the things where Angular is ahead than AngularJS.
This performance gap comes with one main change: the way of handling two-way binding. Two-way binding means that when anything changes in the model, the change is immediately propagated to the UI, and when any UI element is updated, corresponding change happens in the model.
This is one of the important things that made the original AngularJS popular among developers. But, ensuring the two-way binding has its cost in AngularJS: it has run digest cycles that checks each scoped variable with a previous value which is randomly run thus decreasing performance for large scale applications.
Due to the flux architecture of Angular, the necessary detection of change occurs through unidirectional data flow thus makes applications fast.
Handling of Dependency Injection
Dependency injection is useful for making testing easier where dependencies are passed to other objects or frameworks. Both AngularJS and Angular have dependency injections, but their handling is different. In AngularJS, injections are done into many many link/constructor functions and directive definitions. But in Angular, there is a hierarchical dependency injection system using decorations, providers, and constructor functions.
What To Choose?
As evident from the discussion above, Angular is ahead of AngularJS on many fronts. But this doesn’t prove Angular to be the clear winner either. The reason is that Angular being good, it has its disadvantages.
As we have seen earlier, Angular is not completely suitable for the development of Simple web apps. Also, setting up angular is not easy either. Another big disadvantage is that Angular being completely different requires a complex migration process for existing AngularJS applications to get to Angular and adding to this, Angular has a steep learning curve. People would change to Angular only if they have a strong reason to do so.
AngularJS is reasonably stable by now and even though there would be no support from Google, it could be maintained by enthusiastic developers. So, AngularJS would not be completely dead and still be worth learning.

Categories vs Tags – SEO Best Practices for Sorting your Content
Our readers frequently asked us what is better for SEO: categories vs tags?
You cannot be sure what exactly the categories and tags of WordPress are and how they differ. Knowing this, you can use them correctly.
Get In Touch
In this article, we’ll talk about the difference between categories and tags in the arrangement of your content and how they can affect your SEO ranking.
Things to Keep In Mind
What’s the Difference Between Categories and Tags?
Categories are designed to broadly group your posts. Think of it as a general chapter or table of contents for your WordPress site. Categories are hierarchical, which means you can create subcategories.
Tags are intended to describe the specific details of your posts. Think of them as index words for your site. They allow you to micro-categorize your content. Tags are not hierarchical.
For instance, this WPBeginner blog post is in our Beginner’s Guide category. You can see all posts in this category by going to the Blog »Beginner’s Guide in our navigation menu.
This post contains tags: categories, categories vs tags, custom taxonomy, seo, seo best practices, sorting your content, and tags.
You won’t find these tags displaying anywhere on our article. However, they would enable the users to find this article in related searches on our blog.
The biggest difference between tags and categories is that all WordPress posts must be entered in the same category, but there is no need to have a tag.
If you do not assign a category to your post, WordPress will automatically assign a category to it by default. This is known as “Uncategorized”, but it’s often useful to rename the “uncategorized” category to something like “Other” or “Miscellaneous”.
Remember that by default; only blog posts have categories and tags in WordPress. However, you can also include categories and tags to your WordPress pages using the plugin.
How Can You Add Categories and Tags in WordPress?
You can add categories and tags to WordPress while creating or editing posts. You will see them on the right-hand side under the ‘Document’ settings.
You can also go to Posts » Categories and Posts » Tags to add new categories and tags.
To learn more about the process of adding categories and tags, see Our explanation of “what a category is.” “What is a tag?” In order to get help and guidance.
How Many WordPress Categories Should You Have?
There is no specific number of categories that you must have. In most cases, you want 5 to 10 to correctly categorize your posts and make browsing your site easier.
Categories should include a wide group of posts. Sub-categories and tags can be used to split your posts into smaller groups.
If you have just started a blog, don’t worry about trying to make the perfect list of categories. Just pick 3 to 5 broad categories and add more eventually
Break it Down
What Are The Different Types Of SEO?
At Syndiket, we believe four types of SEO exist – and we have an acronym to represent those 4 types of SEO. The acronym is T.R.A.P.
“T” stands for Technical, “R” stands for Relevancy, “A” stands for Authority, and “P” stands for popularity. Search engine optimization has many smaller divisions within the 4 types, but all of them can be placed into one of these 4 buckets.
I’m Interested!
Technical SEO
Generally, technical SEO for local businesses carry the least importance for ranking. Technical SEO has a bare minimum that is required and this usually includes things like site speed, indexation issues, crawlability, and schema. Once the core technical parts are done, minimal upkeep is required.
Relevancy SEO
Relevancy is one of trivium elements of SEO. It has equal importance with popularity signals and authority signals. Relevancy signals are based on algorithmic learning principles. Bots crawl the internet every time a searcher has a search. Each search is given a relevancy score and the URLs that pop up for a query. The higher the relevancy score you attain, the greater your aggregated rating becomes in Google’s eyes. Digital marketing is a strange thing in 2020, and ranking a website requires the website to be relevant on many fronts.
Authority SEO
Google’s Co-creator, Larry Page, had a unique idea in 1998 which has led to the modern-day Google Empire. “Page Rank”, named after Larry Page himself, was the algorithm that established Google as a search engine giant. The algorithm ranked websites by authority.
Every page of a website has authority and the sum of all pages has another authority metric. The authority metric is largely determined by how many people link to them (backlinks). The aggregate score of all pages pointing to a domain creates the domain score, which is what Syndiket calls “Domain Rating”, per Ahrefs metrics. The more a site is referenced, the more authority it has. But, the real improvement to the algorithm came when Google began to classify authority weight.
If Tony Hawk endorsed Syndiket for skateboarding, it would carry a lot more authority than 5 random high school kids endorsing Syndiket. This differentiation in authority happened in 2012 with the Penguin update. Authority SEO is complicated but VERY important.
Popularity
Popularity signals are especially strong for GMB or local SEO, but popularity and engagement are used for all rankings. The goal of this signal is for Google to verify its own algorithm. You can check off all the boxes, but if your content is something real people hate, Google has ways to measure that. Syndiket has proprietary methods of controlling CTR (click-through rate) but we also infuse CRO methods into our work to make sure people actually like the content. Social shares and likes are also included in this bucket.
I’m Interested!
Do I Have to Use Sub-Categories?
You do not need to use subcategories and many large blogs (including WPBeginner). However, subcategories are useful if you have a large category with a large number of posts that can be divided into smaller sections.
For example, you might have a “recipe” category that includes an increasing number of gluten-free foods.
You can make for these posts their own sub-category, so readers would find them easily. You create a new child category for “Recipes” called “Gluten-Free” and shift these posts into that category.
Using Categories in Your Posts’ URLs
Sites usually use the Category name in permalinks (post URLs), which you can set up under Settings » Permalinks.
If this is the case with your site, then your post will initially have a URL something like this:
…/recipes/gluten-free-pancakes/
After transferring the post to a child category, it’ll have a new URL:
…/recipes/gluten-free/gluten-free-pancakes/
Usually, WordPress tries to redirect the old URL to the new one. It is definitely worth checking that your links are still working. If necessary, you can redirect 301 from the old URL to the new.
Another option is to save the post in the parent category along with the child category, but there may be disadvantages.
Although there are categories in the URL of the WPBeginner website, we always suggest users to use a shorter URL structure that contains only the “post name”.
This will give you maximum flexibility while rearranging your content without worrying about setting up redirects.
We are using the modern post name URL structure for all our new websites. WPBeginner is over 10 years old, so it has a legacy URL structure and it is not recommended for SEO to change the URL structure, which is why we are stuck with it.
Can I Assign One Post to Multiple Categories?
With the help of WordPress you would be able to post in several categories. It can be several parent categories or a parent category, as well as a subcategory or subcategories.
Having a large number of categories won’t benefit your SEO. You should only put posts to multiple categories if it is sensible for your readers.
It is possible that duplicate content can cause some SEO problems due to the fact that your posts are in several categories.
If you use multiple categories, try not to post in two or more parent categories. Each post should fit into one main category.
Is There a Limit to How Many Tags a Post Can Have?
WordPress itself does not have a limit on the number of tags that you can tag in each post. You can assign 1000 or more tags to a message.
However, we surely don’t suggest that.
The purpose of tags is to assist link related posts together. Think of them as a table of content section in a book. Each tag is like a keyword in the index.
Tags are useful for users who search on your site. Some plugins that display similar posts use tags to find out which topics are related.
We generally recommend placing a maximum of 10 tags per post.
Categories vs Tags: What’s Better for SEO?
Does WordPress SEO have the benefits of using tags or vice versa?
To be honest the short answer is no.
Categories and tags have different goals. You must use categories, but you do not need to use tags if you do not want to. However, we suggest that you use both to help readers navigate your site.
However at the end, you must design your site for users. All search engines want to show users the content that will be most useful to them.
This means that organizing your content for the best usability will help you achieve a better SEO ranking.
We hope this article helped you understand the categories and tags, as well as the best SEO practices for sorting your content. You might like our article to track analytics for WordPress categories and tags, as well as our comparison of the best keyword research tools for SEO.
